Alfred Gunn House, Oldbury
The renovation programme at the 10-storey, 120-flat Alfred Gunn House in Langley includes new windows and external cladding, upgraded enclosed balconies with sliding glass windows and a new roof. Improvements also include extra parking for tenants and visitors plus extensive landscaping.
Internal refurbishment work includes new lifts and upgraded fire protection with new decoration and lighting to communal areas and corridors, plus improved entrance and security systems and an additional third staircase.
Major internal remodelling work is reconfiguring 57 of the existing three-bedroom flats into two-bedroom homes with dividing walls between the lounge and kitchen removed, providing attractive open plan living spaces.
The scheme - which is set to be completed by summer 2022 - includes the building of 16 new council homes in Old Hobiscus Lane, next to Alfred Gunn House, bringing the overall investment in the area to £14 million.
