The new 3 storey development will be a 24 hours care facility and comprise of 80 No bedrooms to assist in the short stay rehabilitation of elderly patients, to support the transition from hospital care to home and similarly to help prevent unnecessary admissions into hospital.  As well as this, the ground floor will dedicate 16 rooms to the care of people suffering with dementia.

The facility will be supported by both the Sandwell MBC Adult Social Care and NHS staff and will include;

  • 80 No bedrooms each with ensuite facility

  • Gym/Physio Room

  • Treatment Room

  • Laundry

  • Assessment Room

  • Meeting Rooms

  • Salon

  • Fully Equipped Kitchen

  • Staff Break Out Room with tea-making facilities

  • Large open plan, mixed use resident spaces with dedicated tea making facilities overlooking the landscaped garden with generously sizes windows.

The new building will sit slightly below the footpath level off Harvest Road, is sympathetic in design to surrounding residential properties with modern features, a new ‘gabion’ style retaining wall feature to the rear and side to accommodate the level differences of the site and create habitats for local wildlife to utilise and thrive.

The building will be powered using ‘Clean Energy’ Ground Source Heat Pumps and solar panels for water heating, with a gas fired boiler for back up provision.  In addition, the ventilation systems will utilise heat recovery, all to assist in the reduction of the energy use of the building.

There is a fully landscape designed garden facility which will assist residents in their rehabilitation, including sensory elements, a wandering loop and an activity space for potting and planting vegetables in the allotment space.

There is a dedicated secure car park provided for residents, visitors and staff incorporating rainwater attenuation and electric car charging points.

The £14 million development is due to be completed by summer 2022.
